Display Advertising

Display campaigns built for reach and brand awareness: media planning, frequency control, and measurement of branded search growth and brand lift.

What the display service covers

We take on the level of decisions: who sees the message, how often, in what environment, and what the result is judged by. The ad accounts stay yours.

Media plan and reach forecast

We calculate how much of the audience the available budget can reach and at what frequency. The forecast comes from Reach Planner and is checked against actuals once the flight starts.

Audience segmentation

We split the audience by proximity to purchase: people who do not know you, people who visited the site, people who already bought. Each group gets its own message and its own frequency cap.

Budget split across channels

We decide what share goes to banner placements, video and retargeting. The proportion depends on what is missing: awareness or a reminder.

Frequency control and brand safety

Caps per user, exclusion lists for placements and topics. So the brand does not collect impressions beside content it should not appear next to.

Measuring brand growth

We record the baseline before launch: branded queries, direct traffic, mentions. Afterwards we compare against it instead of relying on banner clicks.

How we work

We do not sell reach for its own sake. If display has nothing to add in your situation, we say so before anything is signed.

Reach matters more than clicks

Optimising a display campaign for clicks spoils it: the system finds the people who click by accident. We look at reach, frequency and viewability.

Frequency is a control, not a by-product

We set caps and revisit them during the flight. A ninth impression to the same person costs the same as a first impression to a new one.

One flight proves nothing

We judge results over several months and compare periods. Even a quiet week after the campaign tells us something.

Why paying for impressions can pay off

When a brand is known, everything else gets cheaper: a click on a branded query usually costs less than a generic one and converts better, and a call from a company people recognise takes less explaining. Display advertising is an investment in that difference.

01

Display does not work alone

We plan it together with search and paid social: someone has to catch the demand it creates. Otherwise the reach dissipates.

02

The accounts and data stay yours

Campaigns run from your own accounts. Audiences, history and baseline measurements remain with you.

03

Measurement before launch, not after

The baseline for branded queries is recorded before the first impression. Without it, any report of growth is a matter of faith.

How we run a display campaign

Reach numbers and the method of verification first, placements second. A campaign with no measurement taken before launch proves nothing afterwards.

01

Objectives and baseline

We agree what counts as a result and record the state before the campaign: branded queries, direct traffic and whatever awareness data exists.

02

Media plan

Audiences, reach, frequency, periods and the budget split across formats. The plan is approved before the first buy.

03

Launch and control

Frequency, viewability and placements are reviewed weekly. Anything delivering impressions without attention is excluded and the budget moves on.

04

Evaluation

We compare against the baseline, look at the effect on other channels and decide what carries over into the next flight.

Frequently asked questions about display advertising

What clients ask before a campaign starts.

01

How does display differ from your banner advertising service?

Display is the planning level: who sees the message, how often, why, and how the effect is verified. The banner advertising page describes the buying instrument — impressions in the Google Display Network and through programmatic. Banners usually become part of a media plan rather than a replacement for one.

02

When will there be a result?

It depends what you count as the result. Reach and frequency are visible from the first week, growth in branded queries over one to two months of continuous delivery, and the effect on sales later still, because it has to be separated from seasonality and other channels.

03

Can the ROI of a display campaign be calculated?

Not directly. Anyone promising an exact figure is usually deriving it from post-view conversions, which are easy to inflate. The sounder logic is a comparison of periods: how branded demand, cost per enquiry in search and the share of direct traffic have changed.

04

What is the minimum budget?

There is no universal sum, but there is a threshold of sense: the campaign has to reach a noticeable share of the audience often enough to be remembered. At the brief we calculate that threshold for your audience and say plainly if the budget does not meet it.

05

We have a complex B2B product. Will display work?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no — it depends on whether the audience can be isolated. If your buyers are two hundred people in the market, reaching them through direct channels is cheaper than buying impressions.

06

Do you produce the creatives?

Yes, designers are in-house: banner sets in the required sizes and variants for different audiences. We can also work with your materials, in which case we handle adaptation and compliance with platform requirements.

07

Can we buy display only, without search?

You can, but we will first show how many branded and category queries currently go without your ad. Raising demand and not collecting it is an expensive decision, and we will say so directly.

08

How do we know the campaign is not working?

The signs: frequency rises while reach stands still, viewability is low, and branded queries do not move after a full cycle. Then we change audiences, placements or the message rather than adding budget.

Display advertising: reach and brand awareness

Display advertising: demand that has not reached search yet

Search advertising collects people who already know what they are looking for. Display works earlier: it builds the knowledge that makes someone type your name into Google a month later instead of the category. Adcore has planned such campaigns since 2014, next to the search and analytics teams.

Media planning

It starts with arithmetic, not placements: how much of the audience has to be reached, how many times each person, for what money. Reach Planner in Google Ads sets the ceiling; from there we agree what fits the budget.

Reach and frequency

Too little frequency and the message is not remembered; too much and the budget burns on people who have already seen it. We cap frequency and push the money into new reach instead.

Measuring the effect

Display rarely owns the last click, so judging it by conversions from a banner is a mistake. We look at growth in branded queries in Search Console and Google Trends, the share of direct traffic, the conversion rate of other channels during the flight, and Google brand lift studies where the budget allows.

What gets in the way of display campaigns

Four beliefs that quietly spend a budget and leave nothing behind.

Common beliefWhat is actually true
an impression means it was seenimpressions and viewable impressions are different numbers; we count unique reach
CTR is the metric that matterspeople who click display ads are an untypical minority; optimising for clicks buys accidental traffic
the campaign should pay for itself directlythe last click goes to search or a direct visit; the effect belongs in branded demand
more frequency is betterpast a point repetition only irritates; the same money is better spent on new reach

How this differs from our neighbouring services

This page is about the level of the decision: objectives, audiences, the media plan and how results are verified. Buying banner inventory in the Google Display Network and through programmatic is covered by banner advertising, video by YouTube advertising, existing demand by PPC. A media plan usually combines several of them.

When not to buy display

  • the budget covers a few thousand impressions — that is a rounding error, not reach;
  • there is unworked demand in search — collecting those already looking is cheaper;
  • you need enquiries this month — display works over a quarter and longer;
  • the site has no analytics — there is no baseline to compare branded query growth against.

In those cases we say so at the brief and suggest starting with a different channel.

Who we have worked with
