YouTube advertising

YouTube video advertising: In-Stream, Bumper, In-Feed and Shorts, audience and topic targeting, view-based remarketing, plus brand channel work.

What YouTube management includes

From choosing the format and preparing video versions to reporting on cost per view and per enquiry. The ad account and the channel stay yours.

In-Stream campaigns

The skippable format explains the product and drives site traffic; the non-skippable one is for a message that has to land in full. Different goals, different billing, different videos.

Short formats: Bumper and Shorts

Six unskippable seconds for a reminder, and a vertical cut for the Shorts feed. Both work alongside a longer asset rather than instead of it.

In-Feed in search and recommendations

The video sits beside YouTube search results and in recommendations. You pay when someone chooses your video, not when they get it in front of another one.

In-FeedYouTube search

Targeting and view-based remarketing

Intent, topics, manual placements, site lists. Plus audiences from the channel itself: watched a video, subscribed, added to a playlist.

Video versions per format

From existing footage we cut six-second, fifteen-second and longer versions, a vertical frame and several variants of the opening. We test the opening rather than reshoot the film.

Channel setup and growth

Banner, trailer, playlists, thumbnails, titles and descriptions written for search inside YouTube. The channel works as a landing page for video traffic.

Our clients’ results

We build long-term partnerships — and the numbers speak for themselves: our average client relationship lasts 5 years, and our partners' financial results grow quarter after quarter.

How we work

We never mix different audiences and different videos in one ad group. Otherwise all that is left is guessing which of them worked.

The video outweighs the settings

Precise targeting will not rescue a video that says nothing in five seconds. The opening comes first, fine-tuning second.

Placements are cleaned by hand

Children's content, auto-uploads and dubious channels are excluded by list. Automatic filters do not catch everything.

Views are not called a result

Views can be bought in any quantity. In the report they sit next to enquiries and branded demand, not in place of them.

What video adds to the rest of the media mix

A YouTube campaign leaves behind an asset a banner does not: lists of viewers and the channel itself. A month later those people can be reached again in search, in the Display Network or with a short video — and that contact costs less than the first one.

01

The account and the channel stay yours

Ads run from your own Google Ads account and the channel is yours. View audiences and history remain with you if the work together ends.

02

The video is tested on the audience, not in a meeting

Several versions of the opening run in parallel and we see which one holds attention. That is cheaper than an argument about taste.

03

Video is reconciled with the other channels

Analysts are in-house, so we can see how branded search and search conversion rates move after a video campaign. Judging YouTube by last click alone is a mistake.

How we launch video campaigns

The video and the audiences come first, the budget second. A campaign with a single asset only tells you whether that one asset was any good.

01

Goals, audiences and access

We agree what counts as a result, link the channel to Google Ads and verify conversions in analytics. Without that link the campaign simply never collects half the data.

02

The video and its versions

We review the existing footage or script: is it clear in the first seconds what this is about, and is there a call to action. Then we prepare versions per format and several openings.

03

Launch and clean-up

Each segment starts in its own ad group. We read the report on channels and videos where the ads appeared and exclude the low-quality placements.

04

Remarketing and scaling

Once viewer lists have accumulated we add a second step: a short reminder or an offer. Budget moves to the formats with the better cost per action.

Frequently asked questions about YouTube advertising

The questions that come up most often before a launch.

01

We have no video. Where do we start?

With whatever exists: production footage, testimonials, presentations, photography. Working cuts and motion-graphics spots can be built from that. If a full shoot with a location and actors is required, that is separate production work and we say so before the start.

02

How long should the video be?

It depends on the format. Bumper is six seconds, non-skippable up to fifteen. In the skippable format length is barely limited, but billing starts at the thirtieth second, so a short and a long asset cost the same — the only question is whether it holds attention.

03

How much does a view cost?

It depends on competition in the subject, the format and how narrow the audience is: broad reach makes views cheap, narrow B2B makes them several times more expensive. We give a figure after the first week, from your own data rather than market averages.

04

Does YouTube advertising bring enquiries or only reach?

Both are possible, and it depends on the product. A simple, self-explanatory offer generates enquiries straight from the video. A complex service more often works in two moves: the video first, then the person returning through search or remarketing.

05

Almost everyone skips our ad. Is that a failure?

No. In the skippable format most viewers always leave, and you are not charged for them. What matters is the people who stayed: whether they complete the video, click through and enter the remarketing lists.

06

Do you guarantee a number of views or subscribers?

No. Impressions and views can be bought, but promising a specific number of enquiries or subscribers before the first test would be invention. After a testing cycle we give a forecast built on your own data.

07

Can we order channel setup only, without advertising?

You can. It pays off when there is already something worth watching on the channel. Layout and tags help people find the videos; they do not replace them.

08

How does this differ from display and banner advertising?

The display page is about strategy: media plan, reach, frequency, brand measurement. The banner page is about buying static creative in the Display Network and through programmatic. This one is video: the asset, the viewing formats, view-based remarketing and the channel.

YouTube video advertising and channel growth

YouTube advertising: format, audience, the video

YouTube sells attention to a video, not a slot on a page. The result rests on the format, the audience and the video itself — above all its opening seconds. Adcore has run Google Ads campaigns since 2014, and video sits with the same team as search and display.

Formats and what you pay for

Mixing up the formats is the most common reason behind the verdict that YouTube advertising does not work.

Targeting and view-based remarketing

The audience is built in several ways, each in its own ad group — otherwise the report cannot say what worked.

  • in-market and custom segments built from real search queries;
  • topics, keywords and hand-picked channels and videos;
  • remarketing by action: watched a video, subscribed, added to a playlist;
  • your site lists and customer base.

View-based remarketing needs the channel linked to the Google Ads account — the first thing we check.

The first five seconds

In the skippable format the viewer decides before the button appears. Problem, product and brand have to show up straight away, not after a logo sting. A corporate film rarely works as an ad: its point arrives at the end.

What we measure

Views and cost per view are operational figures. Beyond them: quartile completion rates, the lift in branded search, and conversions that count views, not the last click alone.

The brand channel

Layout, trailer, playlists, thumbnails and descriptions written for YouTube search. The channel holds the people an ad brought in and supplies the remarketing lists.

When YouTube advertising is the wrong choice

  • no video and no intention of making one — a banner will not stand in;
  • enquiries are needed this week — search demand is cheaper to take first;
  • the audience is a few dozen firms in narrow B2B, where reach is an overpayment;
  • the goal is subscribers but the channel is empty.

We say so at the briefing.

How this differs from our other services

Media planning, reach and frequency sit on the display page; buying static banners in the Display Network, on the banner page. This one is video: the asset, the viewing formats, view-based remarketing and the channel.
