JustTalk is an analytical news resource covering criminal justice in Ukraine. The portal needed a modern technology stack capable of handling high traffic while delivering instant content loading.
Task
Design and build a news portal with a React and Next.js frontend and a Yii2 backend. Implement a category system, custom templates for different publication types, and ensure peak performance under heavy loads.
What was done
- Designed the portal architecture with a separated frontend (React/Next.js) and backend (Yii2 API).
- Implemented a branching category system with hierarchical navigation for easy content access.
- Developed custom templates for different content types: news, analysis, investigations, interviews.
- Created an original design emphasizing readability and quick headline scanning.
- Optimized server-side rendering (SSR) via Next.js for fast search engine indexing.
- Configured caching and CDN for stable performance during traffic spikes.
- Built an admin panel on Yii2 for convenient publication and category management.
- Ensured responsive layout with comfortable reading on mobile devices.
- Configured the server environment, mail servers, and uptime monitoring.
- Completed technical SEO: Open Graph, structured data, sitemap, load speed optimization.
